What is a doula?

Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide physical, emotional, spiritual, and/or mental support to their clients. We serve as advocates and a non-judgmental presence to help protect the client's experience in birth, the postpartum phase, etc.

There are many different types of doulas that support people along the entire birth and life continuums. More specifically, Birth doulas serve as a source of support and knowledge as it relates to pregnancy, the female erectile network, and all things birth.

The Doula Difference

With the presence of a doula, clients experience:

  • reduced levels of anxiety, frustration, and exhaustion

  • reduced sensation of pain during labor

  • the avoidance of unnecessary surgical procedures + use of drugs

  • increased breastfeeding success (should the client choose to breastfeed baby)

  • an ideal outcome as it relates to their own goals for their fertility/pregnancy/postpartum journey

  • the extra pressure taken off of their partner (if present); allowing the client and their partner to focus on baby, connect deeper with one another, and enjoy the experience together

Who we serve

We serve those in need of support on their fertility journey, during their pregnancy to birth experience, and/or in their postpartum phase. Every person deserves to have access to the fertility journey, birth experience and/or postpartum care that they desire regardless of socio-economic background, race, age, gender, sexual orientation, relationship or marital status, cultural practice, or prior pregnancy/birth history. We aim to stand in the gap for those who are seeking additional support, but may not have easy access to the resources and the experience that they deserve. Our work is especially done in the name of Black vitality.

FAQs

Does Lyrehc doula therapy have payment plans that allow clients to cover the costs of an offering over time?

Yes! For every offering, clients have an option to pay in installments (rather than paying the the total investment all at once). We will work with the client to create a payment plan that is manageable for them. Lastly, Lyrehc Doula Therapy does offer volunteer services on a need basis. When should I consider hiring a doula?

Great question! The timeline for hiring a doula varies for everyone based on individual needs, lifestyle, and the type of support that a doula is being hired for. However, for birth clients specifically, we do suggest hiring a doula no later than 28 weeks of pregnancy.
